A note from your Parish Nurses...

Let's improve our environment ... each of us can help stop global warming!

Change a light

Switch your most commonly used light bulbs to compact fluorescent light bulbs.

According to the EPA if every American household made just five bulb replacements it

would reduce as much air pollution as taking 8 million cars off the road.

    Drive Less

Walk, bike, or carpool! You'll save one pound of carbon dioxide for every mile you don't drive.

Check your tires

Keeping your tires inflated properly can improve gas mileage by more than 3%.

Adjust your thermostat

Moving your thermostat down just 2 degrees in winter and up 2 degrees in summer can

save 2,000 pounds of carbon dioxide a year.

               Plant a tree

A single tree will absorb one ton of carbon dioxide over its lifetime

Turn off electronic devices

Simply turning off your television, DVD player, stereo, and computer when you're not

using them will save you thousands of pounds of carbon dioxide a year.

Use a clothesline instead of a dryer whenever possible

You can save 700 pounds of carbon dioxide when you air dry your clothes for 6 months out of the year

Buy locally grown and produced foods

The average meal in the U.S. travels 1,200 miles from the farm to your  plate.

Avoid products with a lot of packaging

You can save 1,200 pounds of carbon dioxide if you cut down your garbage by 10%.

Choose a more fuel efficient vehicle

You can save 3,000 pounds of carbon dioxide every year if your new car gets only 3 miles per gallon more than your current one. Hybrid cars can get up to 60 miles per gallon! (Information from www.climatecrisis.net)
